Callaway 3 wood FT Model Review

The Callaway 3 wood, ft model, is a beautiful and all around solid performing fairway wood. It has many qualities that will appeal to a wide range of golfers.

This club is a product of Fusion Technology. It features a stainless steel body and face. The strategically position discretionary weight creates a high moment of inertia and incredible swing feel. These combine to provide ideal ball flight trajectories and control.

With a low leading edge, the tungsten-infused sole creates a big sweet spot that is easy to find. When struck on the sweet spot, you will be hard pressed to find a club that feels better than this one.

This Callaway 3 wood has great distance even when striking the ball off of the heel or toe of the club. Although, accuracy will be an issue when the sweet spot is missed. It features a low to mid flight trajectory, which allows for excellent shot control. On impact, the ball seems to explode off of the lively clubface.

Unlike past models, these Callaway 3 woods feature a traditional style hosel, which creates a classic look that other Callaway fairway woods have lacked.

An OptiFit weighting system allows purchasers to customize their club by choosing between two center of gravity locations. One, weighted for a draw, which is good for promoting a draw or reducing a slice and two, a neutral position, which allows for maximum workability.

Its compact design allows for distance and consistency from the rough and bad lies and also adds to the classic look. The dual runner design helps build confidence in this club as it creates a cleaner turf interaction, which leads to more shots jumping off of the sweet spot.

This is a solid club that is good at everything and great at nothing. The club is a great combination of forgiveness and length. The biggest drawback to this club is the price. Callaway has included a composite crown in previous Fusion models, but not this one. While the composite crown technology might not be there, the price accompanied with that technology is. Most golfers will feel that they can find a club with equal performance at a lesser price.

This club will be worth the extra dollars to some golfers as it is a beautiful club. The traditional hosel style along with the Callaway name make this their best-looking fairway wood to date. Any golfer looking for a traditional look and solid performance will enjoy this Callaway 3 wood.

1-iron vs. driver? Ten Points?

I have been golfing for 5 years now. I’m 16 and I can’t hit my driver. I completely smash my 1-iron its straight and long. So my question is why can’t I hit my driver? I have a Callaway big Bertha 454 driver. its 11* loft and has a RHC light shaft. I don’t know my exact club head speed but it isn’t that fast. I choke down on every club in my bag including my 1 iron. I hit my 1-iron 200 yds and my driver goes 50ft. then drastically turns right. should I even bother with my driver anymore?
The 50ft. was an exageration.

The Callaway golf club is headed by Ely Callaway. he purchased 1/2 Hickory Stick USA and renamed it Callaway Hickory Stick USA. after purchasing it, he made a decision to hire the best folk that would be an instrument in supporting his dream about Callaway golf club. he hired Richard C. Callaway Golf Silencing Doomsayers

At various times the past couple of years high-profile people within the Canadian golf industry have told me the following: Callaway Golf is in trouble; its current business health lies somewhere between intensive care and life support and its eventual sale is a foregone conclusion if it hopes to stay in business.

About a week ago I received the company’s second quarter financial estimates. They are not glowing. in fact, I expected better numbers based on the brand’s 2010 product launch. but neither was it the river of red ink it was made out to be.

The company estimates its second quarter sales in the range of $295-$305 million and fully diluted earnings per share in the range of $0.10-$0.15. a year ago at this time Callaway had sales of $302 million and earnings per diluted share of $0.10. It was, however, on a lower outstanding share base.
Here’s president and CEO George Fellows’ take from the release:

"As we discussed throughout the year, 2010 will be the first step for the golf industry and the Company toward a full recovery from the recent global economic crisis. The pace of the recovery is affected by the stabilization of the worldwide economies and the recovery of consumer discretionary spending on durable products. Based upon current trends, however, it appears that the recovery will be slower than we had expected. The increased economic and political instability in Asia and Europe, the tentative nature of consumer spending so far this year in the United States, and unfavorable weather conditions in many of the Company's key markets this year, are all factors slowing the pace of the recovery. while our full year results will show less improvement than we initially forecasted, we remain confident that we will return to profitability in 2010 and remain confident in our longer-term prospects as well.”

Spoken like a true CEO. Callaway intends to release its second quarter financial results on July 28, 2010.

Then along comes last week’s 110th United States Open. if you read this blog with any regularity you know I’m big on tour validation. That’s often the standard for premium products. you already know why.

Last week at Pebble Beach Callaway Golf got so much air time in weekend prime time NBC might have to charge the company for commercial buys.

Not only did tour staff member Graeme McDowell win the second major of the season the brand also got third- and fourth-place finishes from staffers Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson respectively. That gives Callaway the first two majors of the season thanks to McDowell and Mickelson, the reigning Masters champion.

McDowell, who rose to 13 in the World Golf Rankings, played with the Callaway FT-3 Driver (9.5), a Tour 15-degree X Fairway Wood, X-Forged Irons (4-PW), X-Forged Vintage Wedges (52 and 58 degrees), the Tour ix Golf Ball and an Odyssey White Hot #7 Putter.

The Northern Irishman used his Odyssey White Hot #7 Putter to average just 27.5 putts per round for the week on Pebble’s treacherous greens. He averaged 1.53 putts per green in regulation.

Is Callaway Golf’s business collapse imminent? Based on results from Pebble Beach and earlier this year with Mickelson and Els in the winner’s circle it seems unlikely.
